Our Environmental Justice Liaison, Joy Bergey, has signed our congregation onto the following public letters from advocacy partners:

8/4/23: We signed onto a letter to the Environmental Protection Agency from the Pennsylvania Clean Energy Coalition (of which we’re a member) urging tighter regulation and limits on fossil fuel production.

8/21/23: This year marks the 50th year of the Endangered Species Act, and we signed onto a letter below to President Biden to urge attempts to weaken the Act.

8/21/23: The Farm Bill, which is up for Congressional renewal every five years, will presumably be passed by the end of this year. It's traditionally been full of pork (mostly no pun intended) for awful corporate agribusiness. We’ve signed onto a letter organized by The Choose Clean Water Coalition (of which we're a member) being sent to Congress.  A summary of what we’re asking for:  “This proposed legislation will go a long way toward helping producers and local communities throughout the region, as well as getting practices on the ground that will lead to cleaner local waters.”

8/23/23:  Very little of the extensive shoreline of the Chesapeake Bay is open for public access; the great majority of it only available to private property owners, the majority of whom are well off. We signed onto a letter from the Choose Clean Water Coalition (of whom the church is a member) promoting expanded access to the Bay and its tributaries.

8/28/23: We signed onto a letter organized by the Coalition for the Delaware River Watershed (of which we’re a member) urging Congress to give strong financial support for cleaning up the Delaware River Watershed (including the Schuylkill and Wissahickon watersheds). We’re requesting this money to fund projects including those that improve public access and recreational opportunities, promote equity and inclusion, support restoring and protecting vulnerable fish and wildlife habitat, and protect riparian, stream, and wetland habitat.
