We've become very familiar with the terminology of being "spiritual but not religious." More recently, pollsters have devoted much attention to "the rise of the 'Nones'"--people with no formal institutional religious belonging. How new are these phenomena? During the month of November, Adult Study will be the historical context of this American tradition.
